The Process of Building Stone Furniture

It all begins with the perfect stone:
There is more than meets the eye, when it comes to making stone furniture. It all begins with the daunting task of finding the perfect stones. Not every rock is worthy of being transformed into functional furniture. Since rocks are natural elements we look for ones that are the right size, thickness, not bumpy, lumpy or funky.  After picking out our the rocks, we tumble them in a gigantic tumbler. This process knocks off the rough edges and makes the stone look as though it been in a river for over 100 years. Doing this stresses the stone so if there is a hairline fracture in the stone, it will break in the tumbler.

The Polished Look: Some of the polished stones including the black granite, green marble & white marble are imported. These types of stones are polished using a wet polishing system with a radial arm in order to achieve a high polish.

The Frames: When the rocks are all pretty and cleaned up, we build the frames to fit the stones. Each frame is individually built around the stone, because not every stone is the same. The Deep Seating sets are made from aluminum,  we use a very high-grade aluminum and have it casted here in the United States. The frames are casted it in several pieces at a foundry, then weld the pieces together and grind off the welds to create a nice smoothed finish. We created the aluminum line of furniture because it is the perfect fit for coastal areas, when powder coated.

The other collections are made from salvaged steel, for this we scour junk yards and farms for miscellaneous auto parts and farm implements. This process is much more labor intensive requiring a lot of grinding and cleaning of the metal. Using spring steel for the backbone of the chairs provides strength and long-lasting comfort. Using old machinery and auto parts leaves a rich history in the structure of the frame. It can be left unfinished or sandblasted and coated with  a variety of powder coat colors.

The Building: Assembling the furniture is a diligent task, of positioning stones with the frames and marking the the exact location so that it is a positioned correctly. After positioning the rocks are fitted to the frames marked and drilled with special tools. To attach the stone to the frame we have a specially made stainless steel insert bonded into the stone. Then we are ready for assembly and trial sitting.

The Delivery: For local deliveries we are equipped with a truck and trailer and can provide this service. For long distance deliveries we use FedEx Freight with excellent rates. Furniture is fully assembled and packed on a pallet. We strap it down and plastic wrap it, your order comes to you ready for set up. All orders are completely insured against damages.
